FALCON 8X – A NEW DIMENSION OF PERFORMANCE AND COMFORT
The 8X SuperRange is the flagship of the Dassault Falcon business jets. According to the company, this is an amazingly fast aircraft. Its range and spaciousness of the cabin, combined with the legendary efficiency of Falcon business jets, make it possible to fly further and with even greater comfort.
The Falcon 8X is an exceptional combination of performance, efficiency and an ultra-comfortable cabin, the quietest in business aviation. Dassault claims that cabin noise has been reduced by 2-3 dB compared to the 8X.
The additional range allows it to comfortably fly ultra—long intercontinental routes such as Hong Kong - Paris, London -Cape Town, Los Angeles — Beijing.
The price of the new Dassault Falcon 8X aircraft is 59.3 million US dollars.
The new flagship is in demand in almost all major business aviation markets, from America to the Middle East and India.
ADVANTAGES OF 8X
Equipped with three Pratt & Whitney Canada 8X engines, it offers more range, comfort and capabilities and is an excellent choice for corporate flights, as direct operating costs are 35% lower compared to other aircraft in the class.
- With a range of 11,945 km, this aircraft provides non-stop direct flights between Beijing and New York, Singapore and London or Sao Paulo and Moscow.
- The 8X easily lands and takes off from airports with limited access — short lanes of which are usually inaccessible to other large business jets.such as Gstaad and Lugano in Switzerland, Saint-Tropez-la-Mole in France and London City Airport, from where it offers non-stop flights to New York.
- The 8X is 30% more environmentally friendly than other aircraft in its category
- The unique three-engine layout of the Falcon aircraft increases flight safety, especially over water areas and during takeoff in mountainous conditions.
- Three engines shorten intercontinental routes and the Falcon 8X flies faster. Dassault claims that the third engine saves as much as 45 minutes on a long flight.
- They also contribute to a slow and stable approach speed of only 107 knots (198 km/h) and provide the ability to take off from shorter runways.
"The smooth introduction of our new Falcon 8X, combined with its enhanced operational capabilities, suggests that it will be a great success," said Eric Trappier, chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation.
The 8X has entered the market with fully mature systems and an exceptional level of reliability.
Operational capabilities have been further enhanced by recent permits to fly in harsh crosswind conditions and operate at London City Airport, one of the most challenging airports in the world.
Reliability was further confirmed during a month-long round-the-world test campaign in the spring of 2016. The Falcon 8X has been through every conceivable flight environment, from extreme desert heat to extreme cold and humidity, with a special focus on comfort.
The test results showed that the aircraft performed even better than expected in several key areas, including takeoff distance.
Dassault also invited the Flying edition to evaluate the 8X at the company's factory in Marseille, France. The visit included several hours of flight, as well as conversations with engineers, designers and test pilots who managed the project before its certification.
THE STORY OF 8X
Since the release of the first Falcon 20 in 1963, more than 2,500 Falcon aircraft have been delivered.
Dassault offers a range of six business jets to choose from, from the twin-engine Falcon 2000S to the new ultra-long-haul 8X.
Dassault is a recognized global brand in the aerospace industry.
Business jets designed by Dassault are manufactured and maintained by Dassault Aviation and Dassault Falcon Jet Corp. Dassault Aviation is also known for producing the Rafale fighter.
The Falcon 8X was first presented to the public in 2016 at the European Convention and Business Aviation Exhibition EBACE in Geneva, Switzerland.
In early May 2016, the Falcon 8X made a demonstration non-stop flight from Singapore to London, connecting two of the continent's largest business centers.
The 8X was certified by EASA and FAA in June 2016.
The final assembly of the 8X aircraft is being carried out in Merignac, France. Fitting and painting is taking place at the Dassault completion plant in Little Rock, Arkansas, which was recently expanded to supply 8X with an investment of $60 million. The business jets will be delivered to customers in the USA, Europe, Brazil, India and the United Arab Emirates.
On October 5, 2016, the 8X was delivered to Dassault's client, Amjet Executive, a Greek charter operator based in Athens.
"To see that our new Falcon flagship is delivered on time in excellent working condition gives us great pride," said Eric Trappier, chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation. "We are very pleased to present the first sample of this magnificent new aircraft to Amjet, a long-time Falcon operator."
"I am very pleased to welcome the new Falcon 8X to our fleet," said Amjet President Abakar Manani.
"As a pilot, I personally can vouch for the remarkable qualities of handling and piloting a large new trijet. Its excellent performance and cabin comfort will enable us to meet an increasingly wide range of needs and challenges for our exceptionally demanding customers."
Amjet Executive is the first company to start operating the Falcon 8X.
The cost of renting a Falcon 8x starts at $13,000 per hour. Hourly charter fares vary depending on factors such as: schedule, route, date and time, total number of passengers, baggage.
SALON 8X
The 8X cabin is 1.88 m high, 2.34 m wide and 13 m long, and offers more than 30 unique configurations and layout options and interior cabin solutions for personal and corporate flights.
The Falcon 8X can comfortably accommodate 11 passengers and three crew members.
The noise level on board the 8X is so low that you can talk and sleep peacefully in flight.
The air quality meets the highest standards, and cabin pressure ensures comfort regardless of altitude.
You will always be in touch with the latest integrated FalconCabin HD+ control system, which allows you to control the surrounding space from anywhere in the cabin using Apple devices. Skybox's built-in wireless media server supports iTunes to play videos and music during the flight.
The new JetWave high-speed broadband antenna allows passengers to connect to the Internet and conduct video conferences anywhere in the world, as if they were in the office or at home, using the Inmarsat Global Xpress Ka satellite network.
The 8X shower system consumes less space than the one offered on the 8X, but still provides 30 minutes of total time thanks to the 88-liter water tank. The water from the shower is then dumped overboard.
On long-haul flights, the Dassault Falcon 8X seats can be easily transformed into 5 full-fledged berths. The 8X also offers a place for the crew to rest, which is as important for a successful flight as the passenger cabin amenities.
Interior design specialists, together with the project engineers, decided to add more natural light in order to avoid feeling claustrophobic.
Wherever you are, everything is under control
During the development of the Falcon 8X, Dassault engineers rethought all the basic designs and systems, adapting and optimizing them into a single efficient airframe.
The new internal architecture of the wing facilitates its construction and provides more space for fuel. Advanced winglets reduce drag, increasing efficiency.
Wing design improvements and upgraded Pratt & Whitney Canada PW300 engines can increase fuel efficiency by 35% compared to competing aircraft, and thanks to the optimized maintenance program of the MSG-3, inspections are carried out every 800 hours or annually. The 8X and 8X aircraft have a common standard rating, requiring only two days of retraining.
PW307D engines provide more thrust with less fuel consumption.
These improved Pratt & Whitney Canada provide 5% more thrust, but they also reduce fuel consumption. Harmful emissions are 30% lower compared to the strictest standards to date. The PW300 series has worked for more than 12 million hours and is highly reliable.
The Falcon 8X also has additional operational capabilities added in recent months, including:
- the revolutionary Falcon Eye;
- combined vision system, an integrated electronic package for Falcon Sphere II flights and a high-speed Ka-band connection.
The fully upgraded Falcon 8X cockpit is equipped with a new generation EASY panel. The Dassault Sphere 2 avionics provides 8X pilots with immediate access to all performance systems, and FalconEye provides real-time orientation information.
"The 8X is the absolute precision with which the pilot can maneuver smoothly thanks to the excellent flight path control tools on the main display.
Of course, a fully automated aircraft like the 8X requires a crew with a deep understanding of all the advantages and disadvantages of the technology in front of them, but when it comes to operation, this new Falcon should prove to be a worthy successor to the 8X."
Not much time has passed since the first transfer of the most modern Falcon 8X to the customer, and Dassault Falcon has already significantly expanded the geography of deliveries.
Most of the "eights" are supplied in the USA. Denmark, Switzerland and Belgium are the leaders in terms of supplies. As airplanes were delivered to Russia, India, Egypt, Brazil, Germany, Turkey, great Britain, Luxembourg, UAE and Greece. Several more have been registered on the Isle of Man, San Marino and Bermuda.
The Middle East has also traditionally been a key market for Falcon aircraft; the Persian Gulf fleet has almost doubled in five years, to over 70 aircraft, and continues to grow.
"We expect the Gulf region to play a big role in the success of our new flagship, which offers the best combination of range, cabin comfort and operational efficiency of any business jet on the market," said Eric Trappier, Executive Director of Dassault Aviation.
"The Russian business aviation market remains active, and Falcon sales are stable, especially for three-engine models such as the popular 7X and 900LX. And we are confident that the 8X will become the benchmark in the segment," said Gilles Gauthier, vice president of Falcon sales for Dassault Aviation.
Dassault Aviation recently announced its new FalconConnect solution, which the company says will provide owners and operators of Falcon aircraft with a universal source of hardware and technical support. Announced at the EBACE 2018 European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition, the solution aims to simplify the use, management and control of high-speed communication services in flight.
Dassault developed FalconConnect in partnership with Honeywell Aerospace GoDirect. The offer includes a dedicated web portal, billing history, and specialized service management tools that Dassault says guarantee "direct access to on-board usage." The package also includes a 24-hour customer support line.
Both the 8X and Falcon 900LX are available with the latest state-of-the-art options, including Dassault's new FalconConnect high-speed communications service and its revolutionary FalconEye.
Falcon 8X, 900LX and 2000LXS aircraft equipped with FalconEye were recently approved for low—visibility landings with a minimum of 100 feet - a first in the industry.
Dassault's contribution to the development of business jets was accompanied in 2019 by a surge in investments in product support aimed at expanding its own network of maintenance, major repairs and ensuring the availability of spare parts worldwide.
A new state-of-the-art spare parts distribution center has been opened next to Charles de Gaulle Airport, which will expand the service and logistics of spare parts in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
"The increased safety and reliability, ETOPS-free operation and unprecedented short—runway capabilities offered by our oversized business jets are proven advantages that are highly appreciated in Russia and neighboring countries," said Gilles Gauthier, vice president of Falcon sales for Dassault Aviation.
Dassault Aviation demonstrated its flagship 8X accompanied by an updated Falcon 900LX at the Jet Expo 2019 (RUBAE) business aviation exhibition in Moscow, held from September 11 to September 13 at the Vnukovo-3 Business Aviation complex.
In Moscow, Dassault also showed a full-scale mock-up of its new superheavy twin-engine Falcon 6X, which is due to undergo certification and first deliveries in 2022. With a range of 10,186 km, this business jet will be able to connect Moscow directly with New York or Singapore. The dimensions of the 6X cabin promise even more space, the cabin parameters are 1.98 m high and 2.58 m wide.
Dassault has also significantly strengthened and expanded its regional service network in Russia and the CIS countries. In the near future, we plan to create a new spare parts warehouse in Vnukovo-3, next to the Dassault Falcon Service satellite service center.
These and other ongoing measures and investments were highlighted in two customer surveys conducted by reputable publications Professional Pilot and Aviation International News (AIN). According to the results, Dassault Aviation was recognized as the best service provider in the business aviation sector in 2019. For the first time, Dassault has become a leader in each of these issues.
This business jet continues the Falcon tradition in terms of performance and comfort, while saving millions spent on maintenance and upkeep over the life cycle of the aircraft compared to any of the competitors.
DASSAULT FALCON 8X VS GULFSTREAM G650
Gulfstream G650 и Dassault Falcon 8X are the two largest private jets in the world, accommodating 18-19 passengers with relative ease. They are also among the fastest and most expensive, both for purchase and for operation.
Dassault and Gulfstream are setting new standards in aviation. Both aircraft fly "fly by wire", which means smooth and stable flights even in the worst weather conditions.
The third trijet engine provides a clear advantage over the G650.
With this additional engine, thrust is lost only by a third during takeoff, not by half, as in the case of the Gulfstream. Plus the 8X engine reduces drag and fuel consumption. This performance is one of the reasons why the 8X can operate on slightly shorter runways than the G650.
Based on the analysis of annual expenses, the G650 is more expensive than the 8X by about $ 250,000. Most of these funds are spent on fuel and maintenance of Rolls-Royce BR725 engines. Perhaps for G650 owners, these costs are offset by more than two meters longer than the Falcon 8x and a 20 cm wider cabin.
The retail value of the 2016 G650 is $63 million, while the price of the 2016 Falcon 8X is approaching $57.5 million.
The difference is $5.5 million for the purchase of Gulfstream and about $250,000 for its maintenance each year.
Many people think that the G650 is the most luxurious and impressive business jet in the world, and the price matches it. At the same time, the Falcon 8X has the opportunity to compete on equal terms with the G650.
